Hello, my name is Patrick and I’m a postman in Market Harborough.

Looking at the Ladybird books, do you think your job is like the one depicted in the book?

It’s very similar, but I think a lot of things have changed as well, but some of the stuff like the sorting frames is what we use now.

What are the main differences between then and now?

I think now it’s a bit more modern, ‘cause we use vehicles to transport ourselves to start delivery and we collect mail from the post boxes as well. I think with the book it is quite similar, but yeah, there’s been some changes as well.

What makes your job special?

I think when a customer is waiting for their parcel, they’re just very happy to receive their parcel and some people are just really happy to see us, especially when they’re waiting like for an outstanding like NHS letter, they’re so grateful that we’ve given it to them and we’ve come just seeing their faces makes the difference really.

Have you always worked in Harborough?

No, I working as a postman in Croydon delivery office, I was there for 11 years and I’ve been in Market Harborough for 5 years.

What is special about doing your job in Harborough/Harborough area?

I think it’s the community spirt and like customers getting familiar with your faces as well. It’s just very nice to work in.
