Consultations

This visit has given the children an experience they would never normally have, they've seen things they've never seen before.

The project started with a widespread consultation of school staff and members of the public to find out what they want from the museum. We wanted to know how we could increase families with children visiting the museum and encourage more schools to visit as part of a school trip.

Working with Creative Learning Services we undertook an in depth survey of school staff, this lead to the museum’s newly appointed Learning Officer to develop a package to take to schools, as well as activities for when the children are on site visiting the museum. We listened to teachers who said that it is hard to visit the site due to increased travel costs and some of the interactives we had made can be taken out to schools in order to meet that need.

Our survey of the wider public gave valuable insights into what people value about the museum and what we could do to make it even more appealing, we have incorporated some of the findings into this project, such as the desire for more activities to engage children.
