Think, See, Wonder

I wanted to say what an absolute pleasure it was to have you at the language group today. It really has proven to be a success with the group and we hope you will come again. It has been lovely to be able to discuss pieces of art as a group with people that wouldn't necessarily have the opportunity in any other circumstance. You have made us think about the vocabulary that we use when describing the pieces and have reiterated that art is for everyone.

Where we Went

All Languages Group – Oadby Baptist Church
Oadby All Languages group is organised by the local Social Prescribing team and the Local Area Co-ordinator. This is for anyone whose first language isn’t English but wants to become more confident in using the language in a social setting. They meet Wednesday 12pm-1pm.

What we Took

What we Did

See, Think, Wonder – Session 1
We shared a variety of objects from our ‘held in hand collection’. The collection was put together by artists who wanted to inspire creativity through multisensory items.  We had lively chats about what they might be, when they were made and who they were for. Everyone then used what was discussed to make a museum label for the ‘unknown object’ assigned to their group. The session was energetic, fun and very well received.

Ways Of Looking – Session 2
Landscape artworks were displayed and discussed with the group. The artworks were used to spark ideas, chat and reminiscence. We talked about what we could see, whether we liked them and what they made us think of. A group member shared how they used to create artworks when they lived in India and would really love to pick it up again now that they have settled here.

Not only is it really useful and interesting for the group, everyone is included which is lovely. Thank you.’ Louise Monk, Local Area Co -Ordinator
