Jewellery Unveiling!

We had the honour of welcoming the Finding Out About Your Local Area adult learning group to Charnwood Museum for an engaging tour of the My Jewellery, My Story exhibition, where they could see their artistic contributions brought to life.

The My Jewellery, My Story project has culminated in a remarkable exhibition that highlights the profound significance of jewellery, featuring a rich tapestry of voices and narratives. Over the past year, the group has partaken in a variety of enriching sessions as part of the project. These sessions included insightful curator talks, hands-on bead-making workshops, creative scrapbooking activities, and reflective reminiscence sessions, all designed to spark inspiration and creativity.

Motivated by their experiences, the learners decided to craft their own interpretation of the Cossington necklace. Using a combination of clay and vibrant acrylic paint, they skillfully designed and created unique pieces of jewellery that capture their individual creativity and personal stories. Each participant developed a scrapbook, meticulously cutting out images of jewellery that held significant emotional value and evoked cherished memories or connections to their past. The powerful stories that emerged from these creative sessions have been thoughtfully captured and displayed as poignant quotes throughout the exhibition. One heartfelt contribution came from participant Amin, who shared;

“My great-great-grandmother gave me a ring with prayer beads attached. She was loved, the Queen of Iran. I made my bead to remember her.”

This touching story exemplifies the deep emotional bonds that jewellery can represent. The exhibition will be showcased at Charnwood Museum until June 2025, providing an extended opportunity for the community to engage with this heartfelt project.

The learners plan to revisit frequently, allowing them to appreciate their creations and share these meaningful experiences with their loved ones. The pride and dedication the learners have demonstrated in their contributions are evident in every aspect of their work.
