Access to Bosworth Medieval Festival
About the festival
The Bosworth Medieval Festival, affectionately known as MedFest, is a unique family-friendly event held each August to re-enact the Battle of Bosworth. History enthusiasts will recall the fateful day of August 22nd, 1485, when Richard III was defeated by Henry Tudor. This is a rare opportunity for visitors to step back in time and witness the battle as it would have unfolded, with reenactors showcasing soldier manoeuvres and strategy with canon, horses, and weaponry. The festival offers a thrilling experience of the battle, the chance to witness reenactors’ skills, attend author talks, and enjoy family entertainment, food, and shopping. Our dedicated staff, volunteers, traders, and reenactors are eagerly looking forward to welcoming everyone to the site.
Accessibility at the festival
We are deeply committed to ensuring that all attendees feel happy and comfortable in their visit. That’s why we’ve put together a social story film to try and capture good-to-know information before attending this year’s festival. The film is full of extra details about what to look out for when visiting and other helpful snippets that may be useful. We have created this film to empower our visitors, giving them details that will enable them to tailor their visit to suit them and be aware of details that we hope will enhance the visit.
You can watch the MedFest social story film here.
Exhibition accessibility
Along with the festival, visitors can also check out the exhibition, a great indoor space to dive into history and get away from the hustle and bustle outside. The Bosworth Explorers, a fantastic group of adult learners, helped create an excellent accessibility film for the exhibition and the site, which can be viewed here.
The film would not have been a success without the Bosworth Explorers. Their input was instrumental in highlighting areas that should be included, as well as taking part in the photography and filming. Their knowledge, lived experience, and enthusiasm have been invaluable in ensuring we support people visiting us and break barriers to people attending. We hope you find the film helpful!
This year, the Bosworth Medieval Festival is on the 17th and 18th of August, and tickets can be purchased on their website by clicking here!
