Women’s History Month Event
Fifty guests attended the event at Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre in March 2024. The speakers were three high-profile Sikh women who spoke about their lives and careers and the women who have inspired them.
The speakers were:
Dr Opinderjit Kaur Takhar MBE – Professor of Sikh Studies, Wolverhampton University
‘We need to empower ourselves before we can empower others’.
Manjit Kaur Atwal QPM – Police Chief Superintendent, Leicestershire
‘An important role of any mother is nurturing, supporting, loving, educating and giving confidence in our own belief that we can do anything’.
Jasmit Kaur Phull JP – Magistrate and Sheriff of Lincoln
‘Keep calm through challenges and always use the positive solutions’.
The celebration concluded with thanks, refreshments and an opportunity to chat with the speakers and the Sikh community curators who had organised the day.
This event linked to the new exhibition that the Sikh women’s community group have co-curated at Bosworth Battlefield Centre: Medieval women forging the way: Influential women of the Sikh world and beyond.
