Oadby Open Play

As part of our Arts Council England NPO funding in libraries, we undertook an exploratory early years project at Oadby Library. For the Oadby Open Play Project Morgan Stockton from Leicester Open Play delivered 3 weeks of activity to explore developing a regular early years activity offer at Oadby Library. Morgan was commissioned to work with Culture Leicestershire and library staff to explore what might work well in the context of the library.

Families were able to choose from bookable sessions including a pre-walking babies session and two aimed at 0-4s over 3 weeks in March. Morgan recorded the children’s responses and consulted with parents and carers about their experiences whilst documenting what the babies and children taking part enjoyed. Following the 3 week project the feedback, documentation and views of library staff were collated by Morgan. As a result of this project we are now exploring whether we can develop an early years offer across Leicestershire Libraries. The information is being collated into a report which will be used alongside further research about developing wider early years research to feed into a wider pilot in year 3 of our NPO activity.
