Wigston Library

Welcome
We are delighted that you can join us for our Multi-Sensory Project at Wigston Library.

When and Where?
Five Wednesdays from 18th September – 16th October, 1.00-2.45pm at Wigston Library.

One final session will be held at your school on Wednesday 27th November, 1.00-2.30pm.

During your time on the project, you will:

  • Take part in fun, interactive sessions with lots of art and craft materials.
  • Share your ideas and creations. These will be used to make a great new multi-sensory resource for the children’s library.
  • Be able to see Wigston Library for yourself – you may want to come back with a family member or friend another day.
  • Have fun!

We can all feel a bit nervous about visiting new places, joining a new project or meeting new people. Here at Culture Leicestershire, we completely understand that, so we have put together this information, so you have it all before you start the project.

You will find information on:

  • Where the library is
  • What to expect inside the library
  • The team

Getting to the site

  • A bus from Ausden Clark Ltd will pick you up from school at 1pm and take you to the library on Bull Head Street. The journey will take roughly 5 minutes and the coach will drop you right outside the library.
  • Catherine will meet you here at the bottom of the steps and guide you inside. There is also a ramp for anyone who prefers to use this. These are both marked on the photo below.
  • After the session, the bus will come back to collect you from the same area outside at 2.45pm and take you back to school for home-time.

Wigston Library – What to expect

Wigston Library is a large, modern library in the centre of town. It has a great selection of books and talking books for both adults and children, and these can be borrowed for free with a library card.

It also has computers which library members can use for free with their library card and PIN number.

A lot of groups also use the library each day. A Games group for adults will be taking place when we meet for our sessions, but they will be at the other end of the library.

Catherine will meet you outside the library each week and take you to the area we will be using. This space will have tables and chairs and will be near the children’s area.

Public toilets are available to use and are on the ground floor. There are steps to take you down to this floor, or you can use the lift if you prefer.
As the library is open to the public, it means it is not always quiet. Some things you may hear could include people talking, babies and children crying or making a loud noise and mobile phones ringing.

If you need a little break or are feeling anxious, please let us know or tell your school helper and we will find a quiet area for you.

The children’s area –

A bit about me: I live not far from Wigston, with my 8-year-old son, Solomon. We love to do lots of fun things together like bowling, visiting the cinema and taking train journeys to different cities for an adventure!

I love to watch films and read lots of books. I really like the Harry Potter series of books – and the films too! I visited Harry Potter World a while ago and loved it. My favourite colour is green, and I would eat Dairy Milk chocolate all day if I could! 😉
